Israel Murdered Iran's Nuclear Scientists - Mossad Book Confirmation.

By Jean Shaoul

30 July 2012
Spies Against Armageddon: Inside Israel’s Secret Wars states unequivocally that Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, assassinated five of Iran’s top nuclear scientists over the last five years, as part of a broader campaign aimed at sabotaging the country’s nuclear programme.
It is already widely acknowledged that the Western powers are mounting a covert terrorist campaign to destroy Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. But new allegations by authors Yossi Melman, a leading Israeli military and intelligence journalist who writes for Ha’aretz, and Dan Raviv, a CBS national political correspondent, reveal that the assassinations were all carried out by Mossad operatives who used “safe houses” maintained inside Iran since the Shah’s era.

These were not contract killings, but “blue and white” operations—a reference to the colour of Israel’s flag. Mossad operatives from Kidon, a unit responsible for assassinations and kidnappings, conducted the murders.

The authors of Spies Against Armageddon are not left-wingers seeking to expose Mossad’s criminality. They glorify its services to Israel. Melman is on record as supporting an Israeli pre-emptive strike on Iran, penning an article in Ha’aretz in April 2009 headlined, “I would advise Netanyahu to attack Iran—Such a move would serve the interests of the West and the Arab world, but they can ill afford to admit it”.

The book suggests that most of the assassins were Israelis of Iranian origin who probably held dual nationality and an Iranian passport. Tens of thousands of Iranian Jews left Iran after the 1979 revolution, many moving to Israel. Mossad selected and trained a few of them or their Farsi-speaking children. These agents have been able to access Iran regularly by numerous routes, including the Kurdish region and some of the states in the Caspian Basin, such as Azerbaijan, with which Israel has close relations.....read more

CIA Analyst:United States and Israel seek to come up with a pretext for attacking Iran by fabricating intelligence.

A former CIA analyst says the United States and Israel seek to come up with a pretext for attacking Iran by fabricating intelligence, a ploy similar to the one adopted by the United States for justifying the war on Iraq a decade ago.

“As we saw 10 years ago with respect to Iraq, if one intends to whip up support for war, one needs to find a casus belli - however thin a pretext it might be,” Ray McGovern wrote in an article.

“How about juxtaposing ‘weapons of mass destruction’ with terrorism. That worked to prepare for war on Iraq, and similar rhetorical groundwork for an attack on Iran is now being laid in Israel,” his article further read.

Referring to the recent attack on a number of Israeli tourists in Bulgaria, McGovern said, “Netanyahu broke all records for speed in blaming Iran and Hezbollah” for the bombing.

“On Fox News, Sunday on July 22, Mr. Netanyahu claimed Israel has ‘rock-solid evidence’ tying Iran to the attack in Bulgaria. The same day on CBS's Face the Nation, Mr. Netanyahu said, ‘We have unquestionable, fully substantiated intelligence that this [terrorist attack] was done by Hezbollah backed by Iran,’ adding that Israel gives ‘specific details to … responsible governments and agencies,’" McGovern went on to say.

The former CIA analyst added that Israel, however, has so far failed to provide any evidence for its claims of Iran's involvement.

“Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has admitted that he was aware of no information concerning the terrorist or those who dispatched him,” he underlined.

McGovern then refered to the historical moment when British intelligence chief Sir Richard Dearlove admitted that intelligence on Iraq had been fixed. ...read more

IRAN:Netanyahu’s quick response reveals Bulgaria bombing a false-flag

Israel probable author of Bulgaria false-flag operation

by Kevin Barrett, for Press TV

Even before the dust had settled and the victims were laid to rest, the Israelis and their global media assets were blaming Iran for the attack in Burgas, Bulgaria.

The Washington Post, America’s second most influential Zionist newspaper, reported on Thursday: “Israeli and American officials have blamed the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah for the bombing.” Yet the Post article acknowledged that Bulgarian officials had not even identified the bomber!

This “rush to judgment” suggests that Israel, not Iran, is the probable author of the attack.
History shows that whenever authorities blame a convenient scapegoat before the evidence is in, the attack in question is almost certainly a false-flag event…

Iran: Israel killed its own citizens in Bulgaria to attack Iran?

19.07.2012
Israel killed its own citizens in Bulgaria to attack Iran?. 47576.jpeg
Death may overtake an Israeli citizen anywhere in the world. This was probably the message that terrorists sent to the world when they blew up a bus with Israeli tourists on Wednesday at the airport in the Bulgarian resort of Burgas. It is no accident the attack was carried out in Bulgaria. Moreover, the attack coincided with the anniversary of the bombing in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The policy that Israel and the U.S. run in the Middle East makes Israelis hostages of the policy. The West started and fueled the war, and the situation threatens to spiral out of control.

The tragedy happened on Wednesday afternoon at Sarafovo Airport of Burgas. The explosion ripped through the bus with 40 Israeli tourists on board. The tourists arrived in Bulgaria by plane from Tel Aviv. Seven people were killed in the blast, 32 were injured. At least four of the wounded are in critical condition. The latest version of the Bulgarian government is the following: it was a suicide bomber who committed the attack. Prior to that, it was assumed that the bomb was planted in the luggage. The attacker has been identified. Reportedly, it is a U.S. citizen who entered Bulgaria with forged documents

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of the bombing. "Everything points to Iran," said the head of the Israeli government, referring to the attacks against Israeli tourists that took place during the past three months in India, Georgia, Thailand, Kenya and Cyprus. "This is an Iranian terrorist attack that spreads around the world. Israel will react strongly to the Iranian terror," said Netanyahu.

One may analyze his statement from two different points of view. The first one is a political move of Israel to find a reason for conducting a direct strike on Iran. The most extreme version says that Israel sacrificed its citizens for this very reason. The second position is the following. It is difficult to believe that it is a political move. In other words, the Mossad made a mistake in identifying the author. Then a natural question arises: why Bulgaria, and how would Israel respond?

The first position is less real, though, just because Israel's patron - the United States - is not interested in initiating a military conflict for the time being. There is no extra money to help, the country is in a crisis and the problem of Iraq and Afghanistan still remains. The oil crisis, which in 2007 was intended to save the dollar, is no help now.

The second version can be discussed. One can not find the traces of Iranian intelligence services here ,of course, but one should realize that they are no less powerful than the Mossad. Moreover, according to Bulgarian radio station "Darik Radio", Israeli secret services had warned their Bulgarian counterparts of the possible terrorist attack in the region of Burgas. In particular, Bulgaria received a  request to toughen security at airports and around them. Therefore, Netanyahu means what he says. Why Bulgaria? First, the attack was conducted where it was not expected at all, just like in Argentina, where a bomb exploded in an Israeli NGO 18 years ago.

Secondly, they struck the Balkans, where the West made a "black hole" in the form of Kosovo and where Islamic extremists feel very much at ease.  This is an important factor, given that any bomber always needs a "safety net". In addition, Washington has been trying to become a "sponsor" of Bulgaria and other Eastern European countries since 1989. The US needs to ensure their re-orientation towards the West and avoid the revival of Russia's influence.  There are several Russian-Bulgarian facilities in the Balkan country: two air bases, a training center  and a logistics center that allows Washington to be a step away from the Middle East. In addition, in 2004, Bulgaria joined NATO, and established the State Agency for National Security four years later.

Other suspects in the Burgas bombing are the Palestinian Hezbollah and the notorious al-Qaeda. The first is a radical Shiite group, funded by Iran and coordinated by Quds - a division of the Revolutionary Guards). However, a Hezbollah representative immediately denied the accusations of the movement's involvement in the bombing. According to him, Israel's assumptions are ridiculous. Hezbollah is not at war with tourists. There is no doubt that other Palestinian movements will not claim responsibility for the bombing, at the time when they approached the recognition of their independence at the UN.

As for al Qaeda, this Sunni-Wahhabi organization, created by the Americans, does not exist for a long time already. However, fanatics and extremists - both organized and loners - still serve under the flag of the terrorist group. Their participation in the Bulgarian terrorist attack is highly likely indeed.

However, whether Shiite or Sunni extremists, they will not stop their Jihad against Israel and the West. It is no accident the attack was carried out in Europe on the eve of the London Olympics. This is a natural result of more than half a century of policies pursued by the U.S. in the Middle East under the influence of the Jewish lobby and constructed by the principle of "divide and conquer." This principle has already led to the "Arab spring" and the Islamization of Africa and Europe. Israel is like a cornered animal, after President Obama publicly proposed to revise the outcome of the Six-Day War and discuss the return of the country in the borders of 1967. When driven into a corner, animals can commits insane acts.

Iran: More Than 50% of Iranian MPs back Hormuz Strait closure bill.

Just over half of Iran's parliament has backed a draft law to block the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to close the Gulf to oil tankers in retaliation against European sanctions.
Lawmaker Javad Karimi Qodoosi, who drafted the document, said 150 of parliament's 290 members had signed the bill, describing the strait as "the world's lock" to which Iran holds the key, the lawmaker said.

And even though the final decision lies with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, and the parliament does not really get to influence foreign policy, the move would lend significant political support to a possible decision to close the Strait.

A heavy Western naval presence in the Gulf and surrounding area is a big obstacle for any attempt to block the vital shipping route through which 40 percent of the world's seaborne oil exports passes. Qodoosi dismissed this obstacle.

"From a military standpoint, the power to close the Strait of Hormuz is 100 percent there … if we close the Strait of Hormuz, no country will be able to open it", the lawmaker said.

Iran : Israeli tourist attack- A pretext for war with Iran?

Israel has accused Iran of masterminding a terror attack in Bulgaria just hours after the tragedy claimed the lives of several Israeli tourists. The incident could be used as a pretext for a legitimate strike against Iran, analyst Jamal Abdi told RT.

RT: It took Benjamin Netanyahu just two hours to blame Tehran for the bombing, saying that all signs point to Iran. What are the grounds for such hasty conclusions?

Jamal Abdi: I don’t think he has grounds to make such an accusation. I think it is an extremely dangerous accusation. And it really feeds some of the concerns that I know privately officials in Washington have expressed, that these attacks that have been carried out between the parties, between Israel and Iran, could somehow provide casus belli for a war.

In the case of Israel not having a pretext to go into Iran and overtly attack its nuclear facilities, if you have a situation like this, in which Iran is implicated, whether rightly or wrongly, for a terrorist attack, that could create a basis where an Israeli "counter" attack may be perceived as more legitimate than a preventative strike against Iran, against a nuclear program that – all indications say – has not developed into a nuclear weapons program.

RT: Given the pressure Iran is under concerning its nuclear program, and the international sanctions that come with it, would it be in Tehran's interests to mastermind an attack like this?

JA: I don’t know about the interests of Tehran, but I would not necessarily rule out some of the accusations that Iran was behind this. I think that we have entered a very dangerous cycle of escalation between the US, Iran and Israel. And given the attacks that we’ve seen inside of Iran against nuclear scientists, some of the sabotage efforts that have apparently been carried out by Israel, honestly I haven’t seen the evidence but I would not be shocked if Iran was behind this. And I think it is absolutely deplorable when innocent civilians are targeted by terrorist attack like this, regardless of where it happens or who conducts the attacks.
RT: Do you think blaming Iran for this attack could be diverting attention from Israel's ongoing domestic problems?

JA: I don’t know what Netanyahu's intentions are. I do know that he has used some extremely dangerous rhetoric and that there does seem to be a push by him to ratchet up the pressure for military action conducted either by Israel or the United States. And so when we have this confrontation between Israel and Iran, this is a strong suit that Netanyahu has politically, the very hard line that he has taken against Tehran.

I don’t know that it necessarily undermines anything that he is trying to do by immediately blaming Iran for this before even his own intelligence people have declared that Iran is behind this disgusting attack.

RT: The US recently reiterated its support for the Jewish state. How far do you think they would go to back Israel should it decide to take action?

JA: I don’t think the Unites States is going to have much of a choice, unfortunately, if it comes to a third party like Israel attacking Iran or if Iran does something provocative in the Persian Gulf. I think we are on the precipice right here, and this is a hair-trigger situation. If something happens, the United States is very likely going to be sucked into it.

There was a leak, in the Pentagon couple months ago, a simulation in which they found that in the case of Israeli strike on Iran immediately you have the United Stated getting sucked into it, immediately you have US soldiers getting killed in a counter-attack by Iran.

So the ability to control a situation like this once it actually does spiral into a war scenario, I think, is going be outside of US hands.

Opposition To Iran War Gains Momentum.

While Israeli leaders have historically demonstrated that they are insane and reckless enough to commit such a malicious and lethal blunder as launching a military strike on Iran, the international opposition to war against Iran is progressively gaining momentum.

Several prominent academicians, peace activists, artists, journalists and even Nobel Prize laureates have stood shoulder by shoulder with the international organizations to voice their dismay and alarm at the renewed war rhetoric of Israel against Iran and its possible plans for launching a military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities following the unsuccessful conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the representatives of six world powers in Moscow.

Israel has perpetually been at the forefront of defying Iran's peaceful nuclear program while according to the Federation of American Scientists, possesses up to 200 nuclear warheads itself. So far, the UN nuclear watchdog has failed to present hard evidence proving that Iran's nuclear program has deviated toward military purposes; however, under the pressure of Israel, the United States and their European cronies, the United Nations Security Council has imposed four rounds of sanctions on Iran and the EU has recently implemented its comprehensive oil embargo against Iran on which its member states had reached an agreement in January this year.

In dealing with Iran's nuclear program, threats of military operation and economic sanctions have been the two sides of the same coin for the U.S., Israel and EU. From one hand, they impose hard-hitting sanctions to derail Iran's economy, create instability in the country and sow the seeds of discord and disagreement between the people and the government, and from the other hand, they vehemently talk of a possible military expedition so as to demoralize the country's statesmen, forcing them into giving up the nuclear program and also make other political and economic concessions.

However, there are still people of conscience in the world who have lend their hands to oppose the hawkish policies of Israel and outspokenly voiced their opposition to a possible war with Iran which will portend incredible insecurity for the Middle East, bring the oil prices to a historically unprecedented price and inevitably engage many regional countries which are by far unwilling to see another catastrophic confrontation in a tumultuous Middle East.

Among the Nobel Prize laureates who advocated against potential military strike on Iran are the Irish Mairead Corrigan-Maguire and Betty Williams who have also been strong opponents of the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip and West Bank, the late Nobel Prize laureate in literature Harold Pinter and American peace activist Jody Williams.

Another strong opponent of a war against Iran is the legendary linguist and political commentator, Noam Chomsky, who is said to be the mostly cited author writing in English after William Shakespeare.

In a recent article for the AlterNet website, Chomsky has argued that it is Israel, and not Iran, that is perceived by the majority of Arab people to be the most dangerous threat to the Middle East.

He says that the Non-Aligned Movement, consisted of about 120 countries has frankly supported Iran's right to enrich uranium for research and medical purposes, and that the majority of Americans, as indicated by public opinion polls, oppose an Israeli or American war against Iran.

He even cites polls in which the participants have expressed their belief that the world will be a safer place if Iran had nuclear weapons, while Iran has always rejected the claims that it intends to develop nuclear technology for military purposes: "Europeans regard Israel as the greatest threat to world peace.....read more

Iran Missiles Can Hit All U.S Bases In Region.

A senior Iranian commander says the country’s missiles can obliterate the US military bases in regional countries within minutes of an attack on Iran.

Referring to the existence of 35 US military bases in the region, Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Aerospace Division Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh said, “The (US) bases are all within the reach of our missiles.”

“Measures have been devised to set up bases and deploy missiles within the first minutes of an attack to obliterate all these (US) bases,” he said, adding that Iranian missiles could also easily reach Israel.

The senior commander also made a reference to Iran's successful launch of ballistic missiles during ‘the Great Prophet 7’ drill and said all the missiles, which were launched from different locations in the country, successfully hit a designated target that resembled the air bases of foreign countries in the region.

Hajizadeh said that ‘the Great Prophet 7’ maneuvers were different from the previous ones as all missiles used in the recent exercise were fired at a single target from different locations not a single spot.

The three-day IRGC missile drill, named ‘the Great Prophet 7,’ started in the central Iranian province of Semnan wrapped on Wednesday.

The indigenous missiles, including Shahab (Meteor) 1, 2, 3, Khalij Fars (Persian Gulf), Tondar (Lightning), Fateh (Victor) and Zelzal (Quake) as well as Qiam (Uprising) were fired at mock targets during the drill as IRGC’s fighter jets and drones also hit the spots.

Over the recent years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly made clear that its military might is merely based on the nation's defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries, in particular regional states.

Iran:U.S.Senior Defense Department Threatens Iran If They Close Hormuz Strait.

The United States is rapidly escalating its military presence in the Persian Gulf to deter Iran from shutting off the Strait of Hormuz or striking out at regional enemies.
The US has just doubled the number of minesweepers in the regional waters to eight, and several squadrons of F-22s and F-15s have been relocated to nearby US bases.

An American combat brigade is also on stand-by in Kuwait, ready to intervene in any regional conflict.

Although some of the movements have been long-planned, others have been implemented ahead of schedule.

“The message to Iran is, ‘Don’t even think about it,’ ” a senior Defense Department source told the New York Times.

“Don’t even think about closing the strait. We’ll clear the mines. Don’t even think about sending your fast boats out to harass our vessels or commercial shipping. We’ll put them on the bottom of the gulf.”.....read more

Iran:Video - 2011 Iran Threatened To Close Hormuz Strait If EU Sanctions Were Applied.

Iran: Strait of Hormuz Details - Draft bill proposing blockade of Hormuz has been developed as an answer to the EU's oil sanctions against Iran

Iranian lawmakers have drafted a bill that would close the Strait of Hormuz for oil tankers heading to countries supporting current economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

"There is a bill prepared in the National Security and Foreign Policy committee of Parliament that stresses the blocking of oil tanker traffic carrying oil to countries that have sanctioned Iran," Iranian MP Ibrahim Agha-Mohammadi told reporters.

"This bill has been developed as an answer to the European Union's oil sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Agha-Mohammadi said that 100 of Tehran's 290 members of parliament had signed the bill as of Sunday.

Iran's threats to block the waterway through which about 17 million barrels a day sailed in 2011 have grown in the past year as US and European sanctions aimed at starving Tehran of funds for its nuclear programme have tightened.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital shipping route through which most of the crude exported from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Iraq and nearly all the gas exported from Qatar sails.

An EU ban on Iranian oil imports came into effect on Sunday.

#US Oil Embargo on #Iran Violates International Law Proving Once Again America Is A Rogue Lawless State.

Editor's note: As predicted by the authors a day before the oil embargo against Iran came into effect, the US has now exempted China from punishment for purchasing Iranian oil.

America’s policy on Iran-related secondary sanctions is on a collision course with itself as well as China.  Secondary sanctions violate the United States’ obligations under the World Trade Organization and are, thus, illegal.  (While a WTO signatory may decide, on national security grounds, to restrict its trade with another country, there is no legal basis for one state to impose sanctions against another over business that the second state conducts with a third country.)  If Washington actually imposed secondary sanctions on another state for, say, buying Iranian oil and the sanctioned country took the United States to the WTO’s Dispute Resolution Mechanism, the United States would almost certainly lose the case.

Given this reality, the whole edifice of Iran-related secondary sanctions is in reality a house of cards.  It rests on an assumption that no state will ever really challenge the legitimacy of America’s Iran-related extraterritorial sanctions—and this means that the United States cannot ever really impose them.  Instead, successive U.S. administrations have used the threat of such sanctions to elicit modifications of other countries’ commercial relations with the Islamic Republic; when these administrations finally reach the limit of their capacity to leverage other countries’ decision-making regarding Iran, the United States backs off.

The Obama Administration is bringing this glaring contradiction increasingly to the fore, by supinely collaborating with the Congress to enact secondary sanctions into laws that give the executive branch less and less discretion over their actual application.  This dynamic is now coming to a head in the Administration’s dealings with China. ...read more

#Iran To Build Oil Pipelines Through Afghanistan And Pakistan.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization

Afghanistan: The Shanghai Cooperation Organization will grant Afghanistan observer status and accept Turkey as a dialogue partner, Chinese President Hu Jintao said on 7 June.
Iran-Russia: Constructive cooperation between Iran and Russia will help bring peace and security to the region, President Ahmadi-Nejad said on 7 June during a meeting with Russian President Putin. The two met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Beijing.

Iran-Pakistan: Iran is ready to trade Iranian gas and electricity for Pakistani goods, President Ahmadi-Nejad said June 7, according to Iranian news reports.

Iran-China: Iran is ready to deliver oil to China by constructing pipelines through Afghanistan and Pakistan in order to meet China's long-term energy demands, President Ahmadi-Nejad said on 7 June.

Comment: The SCO sumit covered many central Asian security issues. The organization is emerging as the coordinating body for a growing, influential community of states. The member states have both competitive and divergent strategic interests, but their leaders agree on the need for regional stability so that no power vacuum emerges after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, which international terrorists might exploit, and that there is no uncertainty about leadership or direction in the future.

Iran used it to show the limits of sanctions and that it is not internationally isolated.
Russia and China appear to have used the SCO meeting as the forum for displaying their intentions to take advantage of the US statements about the strategic tilt to East Asia. The message is that since the US is deemphasizing the Middle East and Central Asia, the Russians and Chinese, as continental powers, are prepared to step into leadership roles in both areas. This explains the attention to Afghanistan as well as the Russia proposal on Syria, below.....read more

#Egypt Turns To #Iran - #Israel Alarmed.

Newly-elected Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi will rekindle dormant ties between Egypt and Iran and re-consider his country’s peace accord with Israel, according to a controversial interview with an Iranian news agency.

Tehran’s Fars news agency distributed a set of quotes from an interview taken hours before Morsi was proclaimed victor in the presidential poll after a prolonged vote count.
The views expressed by Morsi contradict his official stance that he will adhere to Egypt’s international obligations. Instead, he reportedly promises to radically adjust the country’s international role.

A day after the interview was published, Morsi’s spokesman denied that it ever took place.
“We must restore normal relations with Iran based on shared interests, and expand areas of political coordination and economic cooperation because this will create a balance of pressure in the region,” Morsi allegedly told Fars.

The two countries broke their diplomatic ties in 1980, following the Islamic Revolution in Iran, and Egypt’s recognition of Israel.

Whether or not the interview took place, Iran has welcomed the outcome of Egypt's election.

#Iran: #Netanyahu Will Attack Iran Before Obama Elections.

Global Research - by Michael Carmichael  Senior Israeli officials now confirm that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has, “decided to attack Iran before the U.S. elections in November.”
Netanyahu’s agenda is much broader than knocking out Iranian nuclear installations for his aim is to reshape the political landscape in the USA and Israel shifting everything to the far, far right in order to create a new comfort zone for religious fundamentalists.

Netanyahu’s major backer, Sheldon Adelson, is now firmly behind Mitt Romney, and they are known to believe that an Israeli attack on Iran in September or October will displace Obama and many dovish Democrats in Congress and establish a hawkish regime in Washington.

Israel has agreed to restrain any attack on Iran until after the current round of five talks between Iran and the P5+1 that will come to an end in either late July or August:
“U.S., Israel continue preparations for strike on Iran nuclear facilities.
The website cites U.S. defense contracts and Israel’s new military preparations, suggesting that ‘all sides are getting ready for whatever may come.’..read more

#Iran: #China And #Japan secure Iran oil supply, bypassing EU sanctions.

Japan is one of the major buyers of Iranian crude oil, and says it is going to provide insurance coverage for Iranian tankers, while China is offering to use its own vessels for delivery in bid to circumvent EU crude sanctions.
The Japanese parliament has approved government insurance cover of up to $7.6 billion for each tanker which carries Iranian crude to the country. Meanwhile China offered Iran use of its tankers for delivery in order to secure at least a part of its oil supply.
Japan and China have announced loading of about 620,000 barrels per day (bpd) of Iranian oil next month, according to Reuters....read more

#Israel Threatens #Iran On Nuke Peace Talks.

Published on 18 Jun 2012 by RussiaToday
Crucial talks are underway in Moscow to try to break the long-running stalemate over Iran's nuclear programme. Tehran is meeting the group of six world powers as Europe and the US prepare to slap their toughest sanctions to date on the Islamic republic. Israel is calling on its allies to threaten Iran convincingly with military action during the current talks in Moscow, media reports say. Tel Aviv believes Tehran does not take the threat of war seriously yet.

#Iran: Arrests Made Over Nuclear Scientists Deaths.

Iranian nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan

Iran has claimed it has arrested the "main elements" behind the assassination of two of its nuclear scientists, alleging they were spies working for Israel.

The intelligence ministry said on Thursday it had identified a number of agents affiliated with the "Zionist regime" involved in the January assassination of Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, a key figure at one of Iran's main uranium-enrichment facilities and the 2010 killing of Majid Shariari, a senior nuclear scientist.

Local news agencies published what appears to be a terse statement by the ministry, which does not shed light on the numbers, names or nationalities of those said to be detained nor clarifies where and when they were arrested.

"A series of heavy and thorough intelligence operations which begun after the assassination of our first nuclear scientists … led to the identification of a number of agents [gathering information] for the fake regime that rules over the occupied territories," it said.

In January, attackers on a motorbike stuck a magnetic bomb to a car carrying Roshan, deputy director of the Natanz plant. The car's driver, Reza Ghashghaee, was also killed in the attack, which took place during morning rush-hour in Tehran.

Roshan was the latest victim in what is widely seen as a covert war against the Islamic republic's nuclear programme. It was the fifth assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist in the past two years.

Shariari, a member of the nuclear engineering faculty at Tehran's Shahid Beheshti University, was killed in November 2010 when bomb attacks targeted two Iranian nuclear scientists.
Shahriari was killed. His colleague, Fereidoun Abbasi-Davani, who was wounded in the attack, was later promoted as head of the country's atomic energy agency.

Shahriari and Abbasi-Davani were targeted by attackers on motorcycles who attached bombs to the victims' cars.

In recent years, Iran's nuclear programme has experienced setbacks including the assassination of its scientists and the release of the Stuxnet computer worm, designed to sabotage its atomic facilities and halt its enrichment programme. The malware is believed to have targeted a control system used in Iran's nuclear sites in July 2010.

Embarrassed domestically by the inability to protect its scientists, Iran claims it has launched various sophisticated operations to identify the culprits.

In May this year, Iran hanged 26-year-old Majid Jamali Fashi, who the authorities alleged was responsible for the assassination of Masoud Ali-Mohammadi, a particle physicist killed in January 2010.

According to Iran, Jamali-Fashi confessed to having attached a remote-controlled bomb to a motorcycle parked on the street, which detonated and killed Ali-Mohammadi while he was leaving home for work. The extent of Ali-Mohammadi's involvement in the country's nuclear programme is unclear.

In the face of little independent information available on Jamali-Fashi, observers have questioned whether he was involved in the killing of Ali-Mohammadi. Some suspect Iran is struggling to cover its embarrassment at home by staging a series of show trials and claims of arrests.

Iran says its nuclear activities are peaceful and has accused the west – the US and Israel in particular – of attempting to prevent Tehran from acquiring a technology it claims to want for medical and energy supply purposes.

The west fears Iran's nuclear programme may have military applications and has imposed sanctions to force the authorities to permit the International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors full access to its nuclear sites.

Iran is due to hold nuclear talks with the world's major powers in Moscow next week, when its top officials meet their counterparts from the US, France, Germany, China, Russia and Britain, the group known as P5+1.

#Iran #Pakistan : IPI Gas Pipline Ready By 2013

Pakistan's Minister of Oil and Natural Resources Asim Hussain
Pakistan's minister of oil and natural resources says Iran-Pakistan natural gas pipeline will be finished before the end of 2013 one year ahead of the original schedule, Press TV reports.

Addressing the Friday session of Pakistan's Senate, Asim Hussain said feasibility study of the project has been already carried out and tender documents will be given to applicant companies soon, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The minister stated that early estimates have put the project's cost at USD 1.5 billion, but the final figure will be determined by banks which will finance the project.

He added that Pakistan will rapidly build its share of the pipeline and two gas compression stations along its southern coastal highway.

The multi-billion-dollar Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline deal, which was signed in June 2010, aims to export a daily amount of 21.5 million cubic meters (or 8.7 billion cubic meters per year) of Iranian natural gas to Pakistan.

Maximum daily gas transfer capacity of the 56-inch pipeline which runs over 900 km of Iran's soil from Asalouyeh in Bushehr Province to the city of Iranshahr in Sistan and Baluchestan Province has been given at 110 million cubic meters.

The project was originally known as the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) pipeline project. Iran, India and Pakistan held tripartite negotiations over the project, which was also known as 'The Peace Pipeline.'

New Delhi finally left the trilateral talks over disagreements with Islamabad on issues such as the fee Pakistan would charge India for the gas transit.

In October 2007, Iran and Pakistan began a new round of talks in Tehran, where the details of the deal were finalized.

Iran ranks second in the world in natural gas resources after Russia with available gas reserves estimated at over 33 trillion cubic meters.

In addition to exporting gas to Turkey, Armenia, and Pakistan, the country is currently negotiating gas exports to Iraq.

#Iran: #Switzerland Refuse To Adopt Sanctions On Iran - Disappointing Zionist U.S.

Switzerland’s refusal to yield to pressure from the United States in adopting the US-engineered European Union (EU) sanctions against Iran has “disappointed” Washington, the US envoy to Bern says.

Under the United States' sway, EU foreign ministers agreed to ban oil imports from Iran on January 23 and to freeze the assets of the Iranian Central Bank across the EU in a bid to pressure Iran over its nuclear energy program. The embargoes are slated to go into force as of July 1.

The move came after the US imposed new sanctions against Iran on the New Year’s Eve with the aim of preventing other countries from importing Iranian oil and conducting transactions with its central bank.

Switzerland, which is not an EU member and not under "legal" obligation to adopt the US-led sanctions against Iran, has thus far refused to yield to the American pressure to adopt the embargoes, postponing it to a 'later date.' It also exempted the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) from asset freeze....read more

Iran To Expose U.S. UK Human Rights Abuse.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has notified relevant Iranian authorities of a law that tasks them with bringing to light cases of human rights violation by the United States and Britain.

The legislation, which was earlier passed by the Majlis (parliament) and approved by Iran's Guardian Council (GC), aims to inform the global community about the gross violation of human rights by the United States and Britain.

To this end, Iran has allocated an annual amount of USD 20 million and designated a working group, superintended by Iran’s Intelligence Ministry, to monitor the related procedures. ...read more

Iran: Russia Warns Israel On Iran Strike.

The secretary of the Russian Security Council has warned against the consequences of an Israeli military strike on Iran, calling for the resumption of talks over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Nikolai Patrushev told the Rossiya-24 TV channel on Tuesday that the consequences of a military attack on Iran will be “absolutely negative” for Israel and many neighboring countries.

He urged the international community to continue negotiations with Iran, rejecting claims that diplomacy has been exhausted over the Iranian nuclear issue.

"It is wrong to conclude that all opportunities and all the existing potential have been exhausted. Negotiations should continue," Patrushev said.

The Russian official also said that Moscow acknowledged Tehran’s right to develop peaceful nuclear energy.

This comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday blasted Western powers for failing to halt Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Netanyahu said that the demands that the P5+1 placed on Iran during the recent negotiations were inadequate.

“The Iranians were only asked to stop 20 percent enrichment of uranium; that doesn’t stop their nuclear program in any way. It actually allows them to continue their nuclear program,” he said.

Iran and the P5+1 - Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany - wrapped up their latest meeting in Baghdad on May 24 after two days of negotiations.

Both sides agreed to hold another round of talks in Moscow on June 18-19.

A day before the latest round of the talks in Baghdad, Netanyahu had urged the world powers in the P5+1 group to “show determination, not weakness” and take a tougher stance on Iran.

Israel has repeatedly threatened Iran with a military option in a bid to force the Islamic Republic to halt its peaceful nuclear program, which has been closely monitored by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Iran rejects the allegations of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Iran: USA Unleashed STUXNET Cyber War Virus On Iran To Appease Israel - Report.

The US and Israel made the Stuxnet virus as a new kind of weapon targeted against Iran, a media investigation revealed. The operation reportedly started in the Bush era, but was intensified by Obama administration.

The top-secret massive sabotage targeting Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment facility was arguably the first episode of a new age of warfare, similar to the first use of nuclear weapons or the first military drone attack, according to an investigation by the New York Times.
The newspaper interviewed current and former American, European and Israeli officials involved in the clandestine program called Olympic Games. None of them agreed to have his name mentioned due to the highly sensitive nature of the operation.

The US and Israeli authorship of the Stuxnet virus, which caused damage to Iranian uranium enrichment effort by destroying hundreds of centrifuges at the Natanz facility, was long hinted at by the media. The virus is estimated to have pushed back the controversial nuclear program by as much as 18 months, although skeptical assessments say the impact may have been lower.

The Olympic Games operation dates back to 2006, the NYT reports. The Bush administration at the time had its credibility at a low, after being to have falsely accused Saddam Hussein of having weapons of mass destruction. This limited the amount of international pressure Washington could put on Tehran.

At the same time Iran’s renewed enrichment of uranium made Israel extremely nervous, because it suspected the Islamic Republic would build up a stockpile of enough nuclear fuel to enrich it further to a weapons-grade level later. If Iran’s enrichment program remained unhindered, Israel would be prompted to launch a pre-emptive military attack on it and trigger a major regional war, Washington believed, as several US officials told the newspaper.

Launching a secret cyber attack on Iran and making Israelis part of the operation both bought more time for sanctions and gave Israel’s hawks a tangible alternative to trying to bomb the Natanz plant....read more
